Mesrobian Bulldogs Win Championship Game Against AGBU!

Bulldogs Triumph Over Titans

If there was any fear of a letdown after last week’s big win, the early moments of Sunday’s Championship game put all anxiety to rest. The “gritty little” Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the first minute of the game after executing a play designed by Coach Kev Bagoian. The opening kick was taken by the Bulldogs and passed backwards. In the meantime all three forwards sprinted towards the Titans goal area. The ball was passed beautifully forward and was touched by Taline Bagoian, Natasha Perumean and then trickled into an open net off the foot of Alida Piliguian. The fans went crazy as there were many who were just settling into watch the game.

The next few minutes of the game was back and forth with the defense of Mariam Mnatsakanian, Hasmig Veilleux, and Lara Ghoogasian picking up right where they had been the whole tournament. It seemed as there was no way a ball would even get through to goalkeeper Knar Baghdasarian as the girls covered for each other all over the field and cleared the ball out of the zone effortlessly. In about the seventh minute of the game the Bulldogs struck again with a goal scored by Natasha Perumean from her left foot. The ball was played forward and passed from Alida Piliguian. Once again the sideline erupted with applause, loud cheering, and even a few barks!

The first half came to a close and the team listened intently to Coach Bagoian’s second half adjustments. He advised the girls to run for as long as they could until they were tired and then he would substitute them out. So, the girls did just that. They ran until they couldn’t run anymore and Anush Ghoogasian and Victoria Cinquegrani came into the game and did a terrific job of filling in key spots. The Bulldogs had a chance in the middle of the second half to make it three to nothing but a shot by Natasha Perumean and rebound by Victoria Cinquegrani were stopped by the opposing goalie. The Titans had a few chances in the second half also, but all of their efforts were denied by Knar Baghdasarian who recorded another shutout.

Overall we can’t be more proud of our girls who faced enormous challenges along the way, but they stuck to Coach Kev’s plan and came out victorious. We can’t say thank you enough to Coach Kev, who is an alumnus of Mesrobian, for taking time out and coaching our girls to victory. It was a great tournament for us all to enjoy and one that I will never forget as being a first year Athletic Director.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

On Friday March 2nd, with extreme enthusiasm & excitement, the Mesrobian PreSchool & Pre-K students celebrated the famous children's book author, Dr. Seuss's 108th birthday - But not with cake and candles, rather with green eggs and ham (which tasted sooo good). The students decorated a giant birthday card, then colored and painted Dr. Seuss's characters sketched by the 8th grade art class. They did activities and played games, dressed up in Dr. Seuss's hats and bow-ties. At the end of the day they took a trip to the school's library, where the 4th grade "Reading Buddies" read his books. It was an unforgettable experience for our youngest scholars.

Mesrobian Girls Soccer Team Wins Semifinals!

What: Kaham Games Girls 8^th Grade Soccer Semifinals

When: 5:00 Sunday 4^th, 2012

Where: Glendale Sports Complex

Last night during the 28^th Kaham Games there was an exciting soccer game played between Mesrobian and Chamlian schools. A week ago last Sunday the 8^th grade Chamlian girl’s team defeated Mesrobian 5-1, which set up a semifinals rematch of the same two teams last night. It was going to be a battle from the beginning as the teams traded shots early and both teams nearly scored several times. With about 6:00 to go in the 1^st half Taline Bagoian took the ball down the right side of the field and made a great cross pass to teammate Victoria Cinquegrani who directly passed to a wide open Natasha Perumean who struck it hard in the back of the net. The sideline erupted in cheers as Mesrobian had the lead 1 – 0. The half ended and both teams took a much needed rest.

The second half started and the Mesrobian girls played Coach Kev Bagoian’s plan to perfection. They played aggressive defense and marked their opponents all over the field. Several key defensive plays were made by Alida Piliguian, Mariam Mnatsakanian, Hasmig Veilleux, and Anush Ghoogasian. Lara Ghoogasian handled the throw ins for the game and she did an outstanding job along with playing stellar defense also. Knar Baghdasarian, who is the goalie for Mesrobian, made several key saves to preserve the shutout for Mesrobian.

Overall both teams played great soccer and put on a great show for the parents and fans who attended the game. It was one of those games where you hate to see a team lose, but this night belonged to the gritty Bulldogs of Mesrobian. The championship game is scheduled for this coming Sunday 11^th at 2:00pm at the Glendale Sports Complex.
