CAMPUS LOCKDOWN DRILL AT MESROBIAN SCHOOL

The primary goal at Mesrobian is to achieve educational excellence in a safe and secure environment. As the School improves academically, it also devotes special attention to school safety. To this end, the Mesrobian has updated it safety procedures by adopting a Comprehensive School Safety Plan.

One of the basic components of this safety plan is the Campus Lockdown, which is a school wide emergency procedure in the event of an external threat. The Lockdown is initiated when there is an intruder on campus or known to be coming on campus and poses an immediate threat to the safety and wellbeing of the staff and students.

To achieve a smooth and perfect Lockdown, the plan procedures must be exercised and rehearsed by school wide drills in accordance with the requirements of the Lockdown procedures in place.

On Thursday, January 31, 2013, Mesrobian had its first Lockdown drill of the year. Lt. Sanchez of the Pico Rivera Sheriff’s Department assisted in the preparation. Deputy Sheriff Peralta and El Rancho School District Police Officer Gomez were on campus for observation and advice.

With some minor glitches, the faculty, staff and students implemented the procedures in a very satisfactory manner. The campus was secured and the students were safely sheltered. The faculty and staff members should be commended for a job well done.

Lockdown drills will be undertaken on a monthly basis, along with earthquake and fire drills.
